Culture and Spirituality

The nature of Australian spirituality can be explored from the viewpoint of diversity.

We have a diverse multicultural population which spans differences in nationality, religion, culture, age, education and socioeconomic status encompassing many  different values and goals.

The statements that follow are drawn from what other Australians have said about their perceptions of spirituality.

‘Spirituality is that part of you that is not dependent upon material things or comforts.’

‘It is not any one specific belief or philosophy. It is about caring for your mind, body and spirit.’

‘Spirituality is whatever makes you feel joyful. peaceful and content.’

‘It is about whatever gives us our purpose in life.’

‘It is about the quality of the relationships we have with ourselves. our connectedness with others and the environment we exist within.’

‘Spirituality is self evident, it controls our wellbeing and is discovered by self exploration.’
