Wellbeing

Although everybody’s circumstances are different there are also some common threads with which we may be able to draw upon to help ourselves through troubled times.

I have learned from my conversations with troubled people that there are certain things that we can do to assist ourselves. In no particular order these are but are not limited to:

  • accepting your emotions, whatever you are feeling as a normal and natural response to your situation.
  • doing something to help others in need may also assist you to get through your own tough times. It may keep you moving and give you a focus beyond the basics of eating , breathing and sleeping. You might also wish to consider volunteering your service or skills or updating your knowledge, for example enrolling in a first aid class.
  • being  kind to others with a generous spirit often serves to boost our spirit as well.
  • engage yourself in a creative pursuit - woodworking, sewing, writing, gardening, photography etc
  • choose to be with people who lift your spirit
  • walk if you can. It not only relieves stress and tension, it also assists your body to function more efficiently and can improve your overall mood.
  • be on the lookout for someone to walk with and consider joining a choir.
  • avoid drinking too much alcohol and taking other non prescription drugs.
  • Eat good food that will nourish you as well as providing fuel for your future. Drink lots of water and take note of your breathing.
